Life Behind Bars With Frodo, Zulu and Amarula!

BEFORE:

AFTER:

FRODO: What the heck (oh pardon my language) what the goodness is going on outside?

Ta-Dahhh!

THE HUMAN: Surprise! I got the cats an outdoor cat containment unit from Habitat Haven a wonderful company from nearby Toronto that makes safe outdoor areas for cats and dogs!!! They have hundreds of different kinds and sizes and they will install them or you can order them to install yourself. (PS I do not get anything in exchange for mentioning the company. I just think it’s a great idea and want other cat lovers to know their options!). I added the wood planks that the cats use as steps and places to rest (though you can also get those installed as well) and mats.

The cats can go in and out anytime they want through a cat door inserted into a Plexiglas window. If I don’t want them to go out (like at night or in the winter), I just close the inner kitchen window!

Of course, Frodo was the first to embrace it. He loves it and spends hours and hours out there:

THE HUMAN: The plan is that I will still take Frodo and Zulu out for some supervised visits outside but otherwise they can hang in the containment anytime they want.

While Frodo loves it, Zulu is taking a little bit longer to come around. Which is as expected because new things terrify him. But he is taking more and more steps outside!

ZULU: I’m not sure bars look good on me.

Amarula is likewise a bit apprehensive as she seems to think I may force her to stay behind bars with Zulu and Frodo (which I won’t)

AMARULA: While I refuse to be contained…

AMARULA: Spending a little bit of time behind bars might heighten my street cred!

FRODO: I think it’s the best gift ever, filled with perfect napping planks!

Can’t wait to see the creative ways the cats think of to use their new containment unit!

Mancat Monday: Lessons In Grooming

FRODO: Hey Zulu, you know you’re actually washing the sheet and not me right? I mean we are the same color but still!

ZULU: Oh boy! I am so embarrassed! I’m not fully awake yet!

FRODO: Oh you’re so funny Zulu! No worries! Let me show you how it’s done!

FRODO: Got it?

ZULU: Got it!

Frodo Strings His Friends Along

Sometimes felines are just not on the same page!

FRODO: Why aren’t Zulu and Amarula chasing me and the string? I’ve explained the rules to them. I don’t understand what is so complicated! I pull the string and they chase me. We’d have so much fun! What’s wrong?

ZULU: This does not look like string woven from Egyptian cotton to me! I’m certainly not playing with common household string! What the heck is Frodo thinking?

AMARULA: Who told Frodo that I have a weakness for string? I will not look at the string…I will not look at the string…String drives me crazy and really brings out my playful side but I will not give in and play with that Marmalade Miscreant!

FRODO: Sigh…I must be doing something wrong. Surely they would want to play with me, right? This is all my fault somehow…Is it possible I’m not as lovable as I think I am?

ZULU: I mean, is this stuff even made of cotton!? Gasp…oh my God…is it…could it be…polyester?

AMARULA: Frodo is my enemy…String is my enemy…I will not be tempted to play with the Marmalade Miscreant…

FRODO: Nah! Of course I’m as lovable as I think I am! Alright, I’m gonna grab the string and give it one more go…

ZULU: If I touch the string I wonder if I could figure out its thread count…But if it’s cheap polyester and it touches my delicate skin will that cause permanent damage?

AMARULA: Look away! Look away! I will not give in to the sweet siren call of string…well, maybe just one quick peek…

Frodo Goes To The Dogs!

Frodo’s human was dog sitting Vincent for the week and naturally Frodo and Vincent became fast friends…though there were some issues with Vincent’s inability to appreciate the joys of catnip. Despite Frodo’s enthusiastic tutelage!

FRODO: Come on Vincent, roll around in the catnip! It’s so much fun!

FRODO: Get your nose right in the catnip. Doesn’t the smell drive you crazy??

VINCENT: Well, there’s definitely something crazy about it…

VINCENT: Just what do cats see in this stuff? It’s so much more fun to roll around in 3-day old urine “messages” from other dogs!

FRODO: I give up! Just give me a belly rub, would ya?

Sadly…the nights were not so fun for Vincent, as Amarula spent the evenings giving him the stink eye and making sure he knew his place!

Frodo “Helps” With The Gardening

FRODO: Oh wow! Mom bought more catnip for the garden. Let me help plant it!

FRODO: Let me just confirm the quality first!

FRODO: Oh yeah! It smells wonderful! This is definitely the good stuff! It’s making my toes curl!

FRODO: So yummy…

Then finally exhaustion sets in after “helping” me garden…
