Intruder Alert!

NO! That orange and white kitty you see is not Frodo. It’s Harry! One of my neighbours got a young cat named Harry. Incredibly friendly. He keeps coming to my backyard to try to make friends with the cats.

Zulu took one look at Harry and made a run for it.

Despite his relaxed approach, Amarula has already attacked him twice but he just keeps coming back! He will not be deterred.

He’s a good climber and a bit of a daredevil.

And he spends a lot of time looking at Frodo (maybe he thinks he’s looking in a mirror) I thought Frodo would love him but there’s something about him that Frodo doesn’t like. Though Frodo won’t admit it, I think it has to do with Harry being orange and white just like him. Is it possible that sweet Frodo is actually experiencing jealousy!?

FRODO: That Harry is stealing my spotlight! I am supposed to be the most lovable Creamsicle kitty on the block!

It’s The Most Wonderful Time of The Year!

It’s Zulu and Frodo’s fav time of the year. No, not Christmas. Today was the first day mom turned on the fireplace. What we humans know as winter, the felines call “fireplace season”

Get your snuggle on!

It will be tough, but I think Frodo and Zulu will somehow manage to struggle through the winter!

Adorable Overload

Look what I get to wake up to every morning

Well not every morning. Zulu sleeps with me every night but Frodo only occasionally joins us.

FRODO: Oh Oh. I see mom spotted me opening my eyes

FRODO: Zulu don’t open your eyes or mom might think it’s time to get up!

ZULU: Shhhh. Just close your eyes buddy and go back to sleep. You make a great pillow by the way!

Frodo…and Friends

Ok so we’ll begin with yet more adorable photos of Frodo’s crazy sleeping positions.

Look at that tummy!

But now in (dare I say it…) even more exciting news…A family of owls in my neighbor’s backyard!

Feast your eyes on this family of eastern screech owls. Two parents and three babies (the babies are the fuzzy ones)

The same parents (and three different babies) spend a month in my neighbour’s backyard two years ago training the babies to hunt. We missed them last year and thought they were not coming back but here they are!

I’m in heaven! (And getting very little work done!)

Oh No! Roadblock!

Every once in awhile Amarula uses Frodo’s catio (she rarely uses it because she is the only cat allowed outside on her own) and then sits at a spot where no one can pass her to get into the main part of the catio. While I am sure this is certainly not a passive aggressive manoeuvre on her part (wink wink!) it is still very inconvenient for the other kitties (namely Frodo) who need to pass her to get into the catio!

FRODO: Mom as you can see we’ve got a bit of a situation here! I know Amarula loves me to bits (how could she not?) but she does tend to get “slappy” and “hissy” when I ask her to share her space! Or, come to think of it, any time I speak to her at all.

FRODO: And as you can see, she pretty much takes up ALL the space and doesn’t leave a passing lane! What’s a kitty to do??

FRODO: Please mom…could you ask her to move for me? Please!

It’s the Best Time of The Year

It’s catio time!

Interestingly, Frodo is the kitty who uses the catio the most. Zulu only uses it in the morning when he goes all the way to the bottom to eat grass and then throws it up right before breakfast (thanks Zulu!) otherwise he doesn’t use it very much. Amarula only uses it when I am traveling (the cat sitter keeps the catio open for them during the day since they are not allowed outside without me around to supervise) but Frodo uses it ALL THE TIME! He loves it.

And this is one of his fav places to sun himself

Life doesn’t get much better, right Frodo?

Brotherly Love

Frodo and Zulu usually get along very well but every once in awhile Frodo gets to be too much with his constant need for attention and affection and he just won’t leave Zulu alone. When this happens Zulu gets this look in his eyes and I know he’s about to put Frodo in his place. A few minutes later they are back to washing each other!

ZULU: Come on mom. I love the guy but even you have to admit he can get to be too much sometimes! A big brother’s job is to keep a younger brother in his place!

FRODO: Even I have to admit Zulu is right. I can sometimes be too much of a good thing!
