Homecoming And A Pawsome Get Together in Switzerland

THE HUMAN: As you know I was away in Switzerland for a week and just got home (though I am leaving again for another week tomorrow to visit Prince Edward Island and Calgary!). The cats were happy to see me but tried to play it cool…

AMARULA:

AMARULA: Yawwwwn. Oh, you’re back. We’re you gone? That would explain why the housekeeping has fallen so far behind. This floor needs a good cleaning! When will the truck be arriving with all the gifts your brought back from Switzerland for me??

ZULU and FRODO:

ZULU: What the heck! She’s back! Well it’s about time you came home! How could you leave us?? We are not going to take this sitting down! Right Frodo?

FRODO: Well I kinda really missed mom Zulu, can’t I go hug her?? I promise to be angry with her tomorrow

ZULU: No! Just look away and ignore her!

ZULU: Now I’ll give her the stink eye while you pretend to fall asleep because you are so unimpressed with her arrival!

THE HUMAN: Best of all, I told Claire, a fellow cat blogger at the Swiss Cats, I was going to be traveling in Switzerland and one of the towns I visited was just a few minutes from where she lives so we got together for a drink in Vevey, Switzerland! It was wonderful. We spent a couple of hours talking about our favorite subject: cats (though Amarula was not happy I returned home with the smell of Swiss cats on my clothes)!! Better yet I got to practice my French with Claire! It was a wonderful evening!

Sandra and Claire in Switzerland!

Sadly, I am off again today for another week of traveling so please forgive me if I don’t visit your blogs for another week!!

FRODO: What do you mean you’re leaving again!! Who will rub my belly!? Come back mommy!

Amarula Has Tunnel Vision

AMARULA: Finally, a nice place I can sleep outside away from Zulu!

AMARULA: He’s behind me, isn’t he?

PLEASE NOTE: The human is away on a trip to Switzerland next week so there may be no postings or comments on other blogs-sorry!!

Here are Amarula’s Friendly Fill-Ins hosted by 15andmeowing and Four-Legged Furballs! We are also participating in feline Friday by Comedy-Plus.

  1. Being me is exhausting. Believe it or not being perfect and gorgeous takes work even for me sometimes!

2.If hairballs were worth money, then I would be rich.

  1. I am proud of my tortieliciousness.

4. If I could time travel, I would visit the year whatever year it was when Egyptians worshiped cats as gods. Clearly, they really valued our superior intellect and divine beauty.

Frodo’s In Deep Water (A Review!)

It’s a very exciting Monday today! It’s the cats’ first product review. Disclaimer: We received a free water fountain in return for our HONEST review.

THE HUMAN: We were sent the Drinkwell® Zen Fountain. It holds 3.8 Liters, which is perfect for three cats and I’ve read a lot about how beneficial it is to get cats to drink more water. It’s also easy to put together and stainless steel (much better than plastic if your cat is prone to chin acne–I’m looking at you Frodo) and top-rack dishwasher safe aside from the pump. The only issue I had was that we have really hard water here and I did have to wash the fountain thoroughly once a week to prevent water spots. But that’s not a big issue. The faint sound the Zen fountain makes wasn’t loud at all and is similar to a babbling brook, which I found very soothing. In fact, I was going to move the fountain into the bathroom once the cats got used to it and I was done observing how they responded to it but I like the soothing sound so much that I’m keeping it in the living room!

But enough about what I think! Here’s how the cats reacted.

FRODO: Oh Boy! Oh Boy!! This sure looks exciting. Is it a new litter box? An electric food bowl? A magical device that will finally make Amarula love me??

ZULU: It moves and looks like a trap Amarula would devise to drown me. I’m outta here! (Seriously, as predicted, Zulu was afraid of it. It’s been two weeks and he is slowly moving closer to it but he may never take to it. But he’s afraid of his own shadow so I don’t blame the fountain!)

Frodo and Amarula took to it immediately. In Amarula’s case, something very strange happened. She actually seems to be completely enamored with it (I’m not joking). I think she must like the sound and find it soothing. I am constantly finding her laying and sleeping beside it. Sometimes she just stares at it, mesmerized. Essentially, if she’s in the house, she’s likely beside her new best friend–the Zen (appropriately named) water fountain!

AMARULA: Finally the human gets me a companion I can truly love! It tastes delicious and doesn’t try to constantly play with me.

Frodo (like Amarula) has definitely been drinking more water with the fountain.

FRODO: Yummy! This machine must somehow melt chicken and mix it with water. How else could it taste so good?!

Of course, Frodo has tried several times to actually crawl into it. But after a few wet paws, he’s finally (if slowly) learning that the fountain is not meant for swimming!

We all give the fountain five paws up! (Aside from Zulu, who remains convinced it’s a trap set by Amarula, but we hope he’ll eventually come around!)

Life Behind Bars With Frodo, Zulu and Amarula!

BEFORE:

AFTER:

FRODO: What the heck (oh pardon my language) what the goodness is going on outside?

Ta-Dahhh!

THE HUMAN: Surprise! I got the cats an outdoor cat containment unit from Habitat Haven a wonderful company from nearby Toronto that makes safe outdoor areas for cats and dogs!!! They have hundreds of different kinds and sizes and they will install them or you can order them to install yourself. (PS I do not get anything in exchange for mentioning the company. I just think it’s a great idea and want other cat lovers to know their options!). I added the wood planks that the cats use as steps and places to rest (though you can also get those installed as well) and mats.

The cats can go in and out anytime they want through a cat door inserted into a Plexiglas window. If I don’t want them to go out (like at night or in the winter), I just close the inner kitchen window!

Of course, Frodo was the first to embrace it. He loves it and spends hours and hours out there:

THE HUMAN: The plan is that I will still take Frodo and Zulu out for some supervised visits outside but otherwise they can hang in the containment anytime they want.

While Frodo loves it, Zulu is taking a little bit longer to come around. Which is as expected because new things terrify him. But he is taking more and more steps outside!

ZULU: I’m not sure bars look good on me.

Amarula is likewise a bit apprehensive as she seems to think I may force her to stay behind bars with Zulu and Frodo (which I won’t)

AMARULA: While I refuse to be contained…

AMARULA: Spending a little bit of time behind bars might heighten my street cred!

FRODO: I think it’s the best gift ever, filled with perfect napping planks!

Can’t wait to see the creative ways the cats think of to use their new containment unit!

Mancat Monday: Lessons In Grooming

FRODO: Hey Zulu, you know you’re actually washing the sheet and not me right? I mean we are the same color but still!

ZULU: Oh boy! I am so embarrassed! I’m not fully awake yet!

FRODO: Oh you’re so funny Zulu! No worries! Let me show you how it’s done!

FRODO: Got it?

ZULU: Got it!
