Three Canadian cats and their adventures
FRODO: Hey Zulu what are you staring at?
ZULU: I am in the middle of a staring contest with that dastardly red squirrel who lives under the garage!
ZULU: Just look at that smug face!
FRODO: What’s he so smug about Zulu?
ZULU: He keeps taunting me by coming almost so close that I can catch him!
FRODO: Why can’t you get him big brother?
ZULU: Because no matter how hard I look, I just can’t find the ladder to get up this tree!
AMARULA: Stop me if this sounds familiar: So a little while ago, Zulu walked by the Human with this little item on his back.
AMARULA: Take a closer look! That’s right, it’s a big piece of peppermint from the human’s garden! I wonder how that got there?! It goes something like this…
AMARULA: What are you doing there Zulu?
ZULU: Just playing with the ‘nip
AMARULA: Wouldn’t you much rather play in that big pile of cat nip behind you?
ZULU: Wow! That is one big pile of cat nip!
AMARULA: Well you play in that pile and I will play in this much smaller one here. That is just how wonderful and generous I am!
ZULU: That sure doesn’t sound like you Amarula! What are you up to?
AMARULA: You wound me Zulu! I am just trying to learn to share!
ZULU: Well it sure is tempting…
AMARULA: Come on! It will be fun!
ZULU: OK I’m going in!
ZULU: I am still a little uneasy about this…
Peppermint bush one hour later…
ZULU: OH oh! Mom is looking at me and she doesn’t look happy!
AMARULA: Mmmmmwwwwahahahahahaha!
FRODO: So I was in the backyard hanging with my crew, Zulu and Amarula, when suddenly I sensed a new presence in the air. I turned to see this creature:
FRODO: She is hard to see so look again:
FRODO: A beautiful apparition appeared as if out of no where!
FRODO: I could not believe my eyes! So I looked away thinking she might disappear as quickly as she had come:
FRODO: Nope, it was not a dream! She is real!
FRODO: Of course, you may be wondering where Zulu and Amarula were during all this excitement. Well, Zulu took one look at the strange cat, cried as though someone had stepped on his tail, pushed me out of the way and promptly ran into the house where he proceeded to hide in the basement for the next 8 hours. Amarula, caught between what I am certain was a brave sisterly impulse to protect me from strangers, and feeling it was her duty to protect the back door from possible intrusion from the stranger went and hid waited by the deck, where she could watch the proceedings from a cowardly brave distance.
FRODO: Clearly, the strange cat found herself drawn to me (my pirate harness seems to have that effect on the ladies!) cause suddenly she came rushing towards me. She is certainly not coy!
FRODO: My powerful good looks are hard to ignore
FRODO: Then suddenly…it happened…she kissed me!
FRODO: And then just as quickly as she came, she was gone!
FRODO: Come back…come back…I don’t even know your name! I hope we will meet again!
FRODO: Ah! There is nothing like the smell of fresh catnip in the morning. I am so glad mom planted it in her garden.
FRODO: Oh oh.
ZULU: What ya doing Frodo? You know that is my patch of catnip, right?
FRODO: Didn’t we agree to share?
ZULU: I love ya like a brother but that’s my ‘nip. You have three seconds to skedaddle.
FRODO: One leaf…Can’t I just have one leaf?
ZULU: One…two…three…ATTACK!
ZULU: Say Uncle Frodo!
FRODO: OK OK! Uncle!
ZULU: Mine all mine!…oh oh…
AMARULA: What ya doing Zulu? You know that is my patch of catnip, right?
AMARULA: Due to his youth and inexperience (i.e. he has yet to experience my claws of death because of my lady-like restraint) Frodo has tried to hug me on several occasions. I can usually tell when he is getting this death-wish idea into his head because his eyes glaze over (although frankly, glazed-over is pretty much Frodo’s normal state of being). In fact, he appears to have such a look at this very moment….
FRODO: Amarulaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, come and play……
AMARULA: Now, because I am the mature one and just had my nails clipped abhor violence, I am simply going to ignore the wretch and take the long way around
FRODO: Amarula………I’m watching you….
FRODO: Come on…just one little hug….
AMARULA: I feel this is not going to end well for either of us…
AMARULA: I see that look in your eyes…don’t do it Frodo…Frodo…
AMARULA: Arrrgggghhh……………………..
FRODO: Gotcha! See isn’t this fun!!? Amarula you are just the best hugger ever!
